BIBLE STUDY COMMENTARY:

We at Open Door Ministry have been studying Genesis for a while during Bible Study.  I can’t tell you how many times I have read Genesis to get a clearer picture of what really happened in the Garden of Eden.  I believe God reveals things to us as we delve into His word and that’s when the light came on for me and for others!  Things I did not know but had read a thousand times, God has revealed, or at least my understanding is a lot better.  And how about all of the “begats?”  I’m talking about the lineage from Adam and Eve up to where we are with Abraham.  I used to skim over all of the begats - who was born to whom, just to get to the good part, but we have learned just how valuable lineage is and how it evolved the way it did, the good side vs. the evil side, and that it is important in every aspect of the Bible!  We have learned that all God wants from us is our trust and obedience in Him because His promises are real that He will give us the desires of our heart if we just believe and follow Him.  He is also a God of many chances as we have found out!  (“Big Smile”)  We cannot serve God on both sides of the fence.  Good and evil were there from the beginning and we have always had free will to choose which side we will be on.  We see this through all of the stories we have read thus far.  We see that choosing anything other than God is disastrous and in order to come back to Him, there must be repentance, but God’s love is unconditional, no matter what, and His Grace and Mercy will carry us forever!  God knows we will never be perfect here on this Earth.  There was only one who was perfect, and that’s Jesus Christ.  But God gave us the foundation and the guidebook for our daily prayer life of faith.  Here is a prayer I found that hopefully will lead others to study the word more!  We really do have a great time at Bible Study.  It’s informal and fun!  God Bless!

 

Dear God, I admit that reading the Bible is challenging for me. Yet I desire to be more than a carrier of Your Word. Give me a hunger and thirst for Your Truth. Lead me by the power of Your Spirit to study and apply Your Word to my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
